Holiday Adopt-a-Family

You provide the joy that make the holidays special. The Holiday Adopt-a-Family gift program started four years ago and has grown into a County wide multiple department effort. Social Services Agency identifies the need and you provide the magic. Your continued generosity makes it all possible.


How to Donate

We have concluded our matching processes for the 2017 Adopt-A-Family Program. Thank you for your generosity. We look forward to working with you next year.


Gift Drop-Off (Locations, Dates & Times)

After adopting a family donors will receive an email detailing the gift drop-off process.

FAQ


TIPS:

  • Please continually check your email as you will receive important instructions about gift purchases and drop off.

  • Please feel free to include a card or holiday wish with your gifts. Cards need not be signed personally.

  • If you’re unable to fulfill your commitment to a family you’ve selected, please inform our office immediately by contacting us at adoptafamily@acgov.org or
    510-645-9305.

  • After I select my family, what next?
    Time to go shopping!

  • What types of gifts should I purchase?
    This year you’ll be able to view your family or families’ wish lists immediately after selection! Please take into consideration the age of the child when purchasing your gifts.

  • Can I make a cash/check donation?
    Yes you can – this type of donation will be converted into a gift card. If a family requests gift cards, you are welcome to purchase them. No cash or checks will be given directly to families.

  • Should I wrap the gifts that I’ve purchased?
    Yes. We would prefer if you wrap all gifts. The wrapping increases the excitement for the kid and they can’t tear through it fast enough.

    **Please note: You will receive a separate email detailing wrapping and ID label instructions. The email will contain adoptee ID cut out labels to place on gifts for each you have purchased. Each gift requires a label for identification purposes.


  • When do I need to purchase my gifts by?
    The gift drop-off period will occur the first week of December.

  • What if I have two (2) drop-off locations?
    It’s preferred that you drop each gift at the specified site as transportation is a challenge for most our families.

  • Will I receive information for Tax purposes?
    Yes. After you provided your gifts, you will receive an email containing the tax confirmation letter.

  • What if my selected family did not identify specific gifts for me to purchase?
    Although we diligently inquired, some families did not specify or were reluctant to identify specific gifts for their children. We welcome donors to provide gifts that are age appropriate for the children and families or donors can purchase a gift card for each child.
