Services
The Department of Adult and Aging Services provides services in the following areas:
- Public Guardian-Conservator — The PG-C acts as a public conservator for individuals adjudicated to lack capacity due to mental disorder, grave disability, or inability to resist fraud or undue influence.
- Public Administrator — Public Administrator (PA) investigates and may administer decedent estates with no next of kin, no will or named executor or other qualified person to assume responsibility.
- Adult Protective Services — Adult Protective Services (APS) is a program that is mandated to investigate reports of abuse or neglect of elders and dependent adults.
- Commission on Aging — The Advisory Commission on Aging advises and provides information to the Board of Supervisors and the Area Agency on Aging.
- In-Home Supportive Services — The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program is a federal, state, and locally funded program designed to provide assistance to those eligible aged, blind, and disabled individuals who, without this care, would be unable to remain safely in their own homes.
- Ombudsman — The Ombudsman's chief role is to ensure that residents of long-term care facilities are receiving the services to which they are entitled, including quality care.
- Area Agency on Aging (AAA) — The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is the local arm of the national aging network. The AAA provides subcontracted services to persons aged 60 and older through grants from the Federal Administration on Aging, the State of California, and the County of Alameda.
- Veterans Services — The Veterans Service Office provides veterans and their dependents and/or survivors with information regarding veterans benefits, as well as assistance with filing benefit claims, waivers and appeals, in order for them to obtain and maintain all available benefits and entitlements for which they are eligible.
